Renovation of early Chipperfield gem following recommendation
Hill Harvey-Wood had the honour of being recommended by David Chipperfield Architects when a former client – First Church of Christ, Scientist, Richmond – returned for ideas on how to modernise their building and look to the future.
Our team worked with church members on a range of development options, and we continue to support the church with consultancy on renovation works and strategic planning. In a parallel project the office has also overseen the reconstruction of the glazed reading room that was severely damaged. This entailed a process of delving into the Chipperfield drawing archive, sourcing stone from the original quarry in Spain and working with specialist metalworkers to match exquisite patinated bronze. Our team demonstrated their signature hands-on approach protecting our client’s interests by dealing directly with building insurers and administrating the building contract.
