Hill Harvey-Wood explore the relationship between culture, place, and community through its work with museums, galleries, and the arts.

Hill Harvey-Wood use architecture to open and broaden connections to culture.
Both founding directors’ experience is grounded in cultural projects from David Chipperfield Architects. Christopher Harvey-Wood was the Project Architect for the RA’s new Collection Gallery and delivered studios and galleries at Westgreen Studio, including for Maureen Paley, and a private sudio for Damien Hirst and James Turrell installations. Alex Hill led the concept design for Museo Santander, contributed to projects for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and co-curated a major exhibition at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza.
Through work with public institutions, museums and galleries, the studio explores how traditional spaces can be opened up to engage broader audiences. We do this by collaborating with cultural consultants to develop partnerships, engage communities and secure funding, understanding that architecture is only one part of a bigger picture.
In our submission to Welsh Government for a new National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales,we developed a highly accessible vision of art that can be explored through the historic Cyfarthfa Castle and its post-industrial landscape setting, embedding links to Merthyr Tydfil’s industrial past and inviting visitors in the public park to experience contemporary art.
In collaboration with Walsall Council, the studio is leading a programme to develop a progressive museum tied to local history as a centre of the leather trade, blending cultural programming with exhibitions and youth initiatives.
For Maureen Paley, the studio worked closely with the gallery team to convert an old workshop into a minimalist space that highlights contemporary artwork.
