Responsive design services and technical guidance for pioneering gallerist.

After previously delivering Maureen Paley’s gallery at 60 Three Colts Lane when at Construction, the original team of Christopher Harvey-Wood and Ben Collins reconvened to assist the gallery in the renovation of a sister space in a former industrial building at 4 Herald Street. It holds particular significance as the one-time home of Wolfgang Tillman’s London studio, and for its inaugural exhibition the gallery presented it’s eleventh Tillmans’ show.

Hill Harvey-Wood worked with the gallery team on a light-touch renovation that retains the raw character of the industrial rooms. The project comprises a 140m2 first-floor gallery, storage, meeting and arrival spaces.

The project expands the Three Colts Lane premises. The earlier renovation was originally conceived as a temporary home for the gallery which has maintained a presence in area since 1999, but which was threatened to be uprooted by private development. The 160m2 gallery remains Maureen Paley’s East End base since its completion by Westgreen in 2020. Christopher Harvey-Wood led the refurbishment which was undertaken at pace and to a modest budget incorporating versatile lighting, wall linings and office fixtures that contrast with exposed floors and ceilings.
