Hill Harvey-Wood turned a set of dated and gloomy spaces into a spacious, refined city base. The renovation stitches together a four bedroom flat and a studio, which were stripped back to the bare bones and then reconfigured it into an enlarged 370m2 four bedroom home.
A simple palette of oak, stone and plaster creates a calm atmosphere away from the bustle of central London. A series of fixed elements such as plinths, benches and screens give focus and character to each room. In response to relatively low ceiling heights the plaster areas are to be as clutter free as possible and in places the irregular shapes of the rooms have been softened with curtains and chamfered plaster details.
Working closely with our developer client and building on our respective experience the project has become a test-bed for robust, pragmatic, high-quality detailing. The degree of craft employed has extended to the design and prototyping of bespoke elements such as lighting and loose furniture. Every detail of the project is being delivered as a complete package down to furniture and artwork.
