College Hill Residential

Unique house in the City of London with a hidden courtyard that once belonged to George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham

Hill Harvey-Wood’s construction and heritage experience has been vital in taking smart and commercially viable design decisions that will retore the character of this Georgian jewel. On behalf of our developer client Hill Harvey-Wood is leading a team to secure the change of use and undertake the rennovation of No. 4 College Hill, a Grade II listed property that, despite decades of alternations and modifications as makeshift offices retains the blueprint of an elegant family home. Situated in the Vintry ward of the City where French wine and garlic were once landed at the nearby Garlickhythe (‘garlic dock’), the house conceals a public square that was originally the entrance court to the grand residence of George Villiers, favourite of King James VI and I. Layers of history have been uncovered, informing a design that reconciles the reinstatement and restoration of historic elements with contemporary living requirements.
